WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama had the White House jamming with the smooth jazz of Wynton, Branford and Delfeayo Marsalis, as well as music from Sean Jones, Stephen C. Massey, Todd Williams, Eli Yamin and others.

The event was for the White House Music Series which features artists of all ages who perform, educate and interact with young people. Jazz is the first genre of music to be put on display with country and classical music events taking center stage at the White House this summer and fall.

The first lady spoke about the importance of jazz in her life.

“At Christmas, birthdays, Easter…it didn’t matter. There was jazz playing in our household. So it means so much for me to be able to bring that music here to the White House.”
