Church buys run-down school in hopes of saving monument
The New York Times reported on Rev. W. R. Portee of Los Angeles and his church buying Sumner Elementary School of Topeka, Kansas. Sumner Elementary has a place in the history of the civil rights movement because it denied a black girl, Linda Brown, entrance into the third grade.
