A Jacksonville, Florida high school teacher has been suspended after choking a student in class.

Cell phone video of the incident made national headlines in June.

It was taken during the last week of class at Forrest High and appears to show math teacher Michael Brown choking one of his students, Clyde Wilson.

Duval County’s superintendent is recommending a 15-day suspension without pay.

The punishment was revealed in a three-page reprimand to Brown.

The letter states “Your conduct cannot be condoned by the profession or by the public who employs us. Your actions have lessened the reputation of all who practice our profession.”

“It’s not justice,” Tommy Wilson, the victim’s father said.

Wilson says Jacksonville police told him three weeks ago their investigation is over too, with no charges filed.

“The detective said she didn’t have any evidence that he had abused Clyde. Half the children said that he was playing and the other half said he wasn’t, so there was no grounds to arrest him,” Tommy Wilson explained.

The 15-day suspension is a recommendation from superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals.

The School Board must give final approval.

Brown did not return calls seeking comment.
