WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Security Council’s chief of staff says the Obama administration will “follow through” on all intelligence leads as they seek to avert any further terrorist attacks.
Denis McDonough said in a nationally broadcast interview that all key national security players at a meeting with President Barack Obama “took responsibility” for the near-tragic Christmas day bombing attempt on a U.S.-bound jetliner.
Interviewed on CBS’s “The Early Show” Wednesday, McDonough said “it struck everybody that there was a sense of urgency.” He said the U.S. intelligence community has had many successes, but that it cannot afford any failures. McDonough told interviewers, “We want to make sure that we stay as agile as our enemy, and we’re going to make sure that we follow through on all the leads.”
