Palin backs black Republican for Congress

VIDEO - Allen West, GOP candidate for a Florida Congressional seat, received a surprise endorsement from none other than former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin...

Allen West, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel and former Iraq War veteran, is a GOP candidate for Congress in Florida’s 22nd district currently running against Boca Raton Democrat Rep. Ron Klein. This is the second time West has campaigned against Klein, for the same congressional seat, during the November 2008 elections.

Making headlines though are his supporters. Backing him is none other than former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, who announced her endorsement of the retired officer on her Facebook page in which she describes Allen’s personal story as a “testament to the commonsense conservative belief that our nation’s greatness is rooted in freedom.”

“Allen is a small government fiscal conservative running against a left-wing ideologue (Congressman Ron Klein) who’s marched to the beat of Nancy Pelosi on every issue from cap-and-tax to the stimulus, TARP, and, of course, Obamacare,” she continued.

Upon learning about this public endorsement, West expressed his gratitude towards the former governor.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have secured Governor Palin’s endorsement for our Congressional campaign,” said West. “The hard work of our supporters is being recognized both here in the 22nd District as well as across America.”

West, however, is not the only GOP candidate gaining support from the former governor. Palin has endorsed two other Iraq War veterans running for Congress, including Vaughn Ward who is running against Rep. Walt Minnick in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District and Adam Kinzinger, who is campaigning to defeat Rep. Debbie Halvorson in Illinois’ in 11th Congressional District.

While not an official supporter of the Tea Party movement, West maintains that he believes the party is a progressive institution. Despite this, West is considered a party favorite among members.
