

A 16-year-old girl’s quick thinking and her level head under pressure helped her save her brother’s life along a Denton, Texas highway. Cayaana Kniper, a Krum High School student, used the Heimlich maneuver to stop her brother from choking. She learned it in school two years ago. “It (was) just one of those things where you act,” she said.

A school in western Michigan has won a contest to have President Obama make its commencement address this spring. Kalamazoo Central High School was one of three finalists in the Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the winner Tuesday.
