Fresh off the announcement of his new television drama, The Event, Hollywood veteran Blair Underwood has another major event — the release of his latest book. It’s called From Cape Town with Love. The novel is the third part of a detective series and features a “vook” — a video that readers can download that goes along with the book.

For Underwood, he believes his books fill a void. He likens his character Tennyson Hardwick to a cross between Jason Bourne and Shaft. “He’s romantic. He’s an action figure. He’s conflicted. It speaks to the action-adventure male oriented audience and also a romantic female audience that goes for that kind of stuff,” explained Underwood.

Also, with the incorporation of his new vook, Underwood hopes this will encourage more reading among teens. He said, “When I was a kid we had pop-up books. Now they actually have vooks where you can watch it come to life and you’re reading at the same time, so it’s going to bring you into that world of the literary world and make you want to read more. I think it’s a good thing.”
