  • 2) I Am Legend (2007): In arguably one of his greatest dramatic performances, Smith held the screen virtually all by himself for most of this apocalyptic thriller's running time. He plays a military scientist who may or may not be the last man on the planet. A scary good time at the movies.

Whoopi takes on critics: 'I did not defend Mel Gibson!'

This morning on ‘The View’ comedienne-actress and host of the popular daytime show angrily responded to accusations that she defended Mel Gibson’s racist rant. On Monday’s show, Goldberg stated, “I know Mel, and I know he’s not a racist,” Goldberg said. “He may be a bonehead. I can’t sit and say that he’s a racist, having spent time with him in my house with my kids.”

Several online sites including USA Today, E! and several popular gossip blogs ran headlines stating,“Whoopi Goldberg Defends Mel Gibson.” Reports accused the actress of taking up for the disturbed actor, rather than sympathizing with his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

But on today’s show, the Oscar-winning actress let the blogs have it. Goldberg questioned if reporters and bloggers ever watched the show. ‘The View’ host said this morning, “And to you bloggers, who sit at home trying to find something to do…” The actress was clearly bothered, even revealing she received calls at her office, stating people were rude to the young lady who works for her. “You don’t even know her!” the actress screamed. Goldberg visibly held back profanities, but still managed to hurl “dog mess” at what we would call lazy journalism.

The above clip clearly reveals the actress didn’t want to jump to conclusions and to brand Gibson as a racist who is obviously as she said, a drunk. Goldberg reasoned that if we used the current standards defining a racist, that we are all racists.
