Longshot New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan created a viral video sensation during a recent debate with six other candidates with his catchphrase, “The rent is too damn high.”

The debate clip has gone over 300,000 hits on YouTube.

McMillan got on the ballot by attending events over the summer and had residents sign his petition. He’s positive that he will get more than 200,000 signatures he needs to remain on the New York ballot. “We’re gonna win [the election] they way it looks [now]”, McMillan says.

His solution to wipe away the $8.2 billion in deficits facing the state of New York is to reduce the rent so tenants can have money to spend which would bring money back to the state.

“They thought this was some kind of joke, looking like Hulk Hogan with the mustache,” says McMillan, who insists his candidacy isn’t a joke. “The rent is too damn high,” McMillan reiterated yet again.
