DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Investigators say a Florida woman knew her mother was trying to sell her child and wanted some of the money to pay for a new car.
Stephanie Bigbee Fleming of Bradenton was charged Tuesday with being a principal to illegal sale or surrender of a child and jailed. It was not immediately known if the 22-year-old has an attorney.
Fleming’s mother, Patty Bigbee, was arrested Friday with her boyfriend. Authorities say they offered to sell the 8-week-old baby for $30,000.
The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that the buyer-turned-informant was another daughter, who Bigbee had given up for adoption and recently reconnected with.
When the daughter mentioned she wanted a baby, Bigbee offered her grandson for sale. The woman then notified authorities.
