ST. LOUIS (AP) – Rock-and-roll legend Chuck Berry has returned home to suburban St. Louis after falling ill with exhaustion during a concert in Chicago.

Berry’s longtime friend Joe Edwards said Monday that the 84-year-old singer returned to his Wentzville, Mo., home Sunday afternoon. He was not hospitalized.

Edwards says Berry is well enough to prepare for a Jan. 19 show at Blueberry Hill in University City, Mo., where he has performed monthly concerts since 1996. Edwards owns Blueberry Hill.

Berry fell ill Saturday while performing at Chicago’s Congress Theater. A concertgoer says Berry gave an erratic, out-of-tune performance before being helped offstage.

Edwards says Berry was exhausted after two New Year’s Eve shows in New York and the journey to Chicago.

Berry’s songs include “Maybelline,” ‘’Johnny B. Goode” and “Roll Over Beethoven.”
