The California Highway Patrol officer who said she shot and killed her husband in self-defense in 2009 has been reportedly arrested.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that 31-year-old Tomiekia Johnson was charged with the killing of her husband.

Johnson called authorities at 11:07 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2009, and said she’d shot her husband, Marcus Lemons, in the upper torso in the 400 block of Amantha Avenue after he became “verbally and physically combative,” said sheriff’s Deputy Rick Pedroza shortly after the 2009 incident.

Johnson claimed self-defense.

But family members and friends of Lemons said they do not believe he was an abusive person. A brother, who did not want to be named, said Lemons “would never do something like that.”

Lemons worked as a barber at Platinum Cutz in Compton.

“It’s hard for me to believe it at all,” said owner Randy Brown. “He was like a brother to me. He never would’ve done this. I’ve seen him get upset over little things here and never lashes out. He could never do that to his wife.”

Brown said Lemons was married to his officer-wife for about five years and that they shared a daughter. That’s in addition to Lemons’ teenage son from a previous relationship.
