From New York Daily News:

A Queens widow says that the NYPD is to blame for her husbands fatal heart attack.

Robert and Doris Hudson, married 52 years, went to a Queens Village pharmacy on Jan. 14 to pick up Doris’ medicine. Officers Julio Orozco and Dominick Lettieri approached the couples van and accused Doris of not wearing a seat belt just as she took it off. The officers told Hudson she would be getting a summons, but she didn’t have any identification with her.

The two officers made Robert Hudson rush home by foot, a half a mile both ways, to get Doris Hudson’s identification.

According to Hudson’s lawyer, Bonita Zelman, police refused to let the husband drive home to get the ID. Robert Hudson returned 45 minutes later with the ID.

While her husband was away, Doris Hudson got her medicine and the officers wrote her a summons based on her name and address from the prescription.

The couple eventually got back in the car and drove off. About a block or so away, Robert Hudson collapsed behind the wheel and later died at Franklin Hospital.

“There was no reason not to let him drive home,” Zelman said. “He wasn’t the one getting the summons. Instead, they had him walk home. He tried to walk as fast as he could, but he’s 72 years old and some of the walk is uphill.”
