New Africans – Ask someone to define the term “African American” and chances are you’ll get more than one definition. As we celebrate Black History Month, we may want to seriously examine what it means to be “African American” in this country. Since 2007, more than 1.4 million African immigrants have brought a new wave of “African Americans” to the United States, increasing the number by 40% since the Sixties. Our New York-based Game Changer Tesfaye Negussie, a black man of Ethiopian descent, explores what it means to be a black man who is both African American, African, and Ethiopian in America. His story could be your story.
