A 17-year-old California father is dead after kidnapping his 5-month-old son, stabbing the baby and leading police on a high speed chase.

Investigators say Christopher Glass took the child from a baby-sitter’s home Tuesday morning. He later phoned the baby’s mother and threatened to harm the child.

Sheriff’s deputies spotted Glass behind the wheel of an SUV several hours later.

After seeing what appeared to be stabbing motions by Glass, the deputies gave chase. Glass eventually lost control of the vehicle and struck a building, then ran from the scene of the crash into a nearby house, where he was shot and killed by deputies.

The baby, which had been stabbed repeatedly, was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive.
