Beautyshop Buzz: Does your mother determine who you date?

The movie Jumping the Broom is coming out this week, just in time for Mother’s Day. It’s about two families from different socioeconomic backgrounds joined together by marriage. We stopped by the beauty shop to see what they thought about the themes in this flick.

Jumping the Broom brings two black families together from different parts of town. Do you believe that there is still a noticeable divide between classes?

Do you think it’s possible to keep the culture you were raised with, while moving into a new class?

The couple getting married in the movie has some resistance from both families. Do you think someone’s family should have a say in who they marry?

How much emphasis do you put on what your family says?

Does your mom influence your dating choices?
