LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to slashing his grandmother’s throat and robbing her of $20.

Rouluis Felix was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence District Court and faces a number of charges, including armed robbery and assault and battery on a person over age 60. Police said that the 22-year-old attacked his 66-year-old grandmother last week at her Lawrence apartment.

According to a police report, Felix slashed one side of his grandmother’s throat then slashed the other side when she started to get up. Police said he then kicked her and stole $20 from her pocket.

Authorities said the woman, who survived the attack, also suffered two broken ribs. She underwent surgery at Lawrence General Hospital.

It was unclear if Felix had an attorney.
