A 9-year-old boy is safe after he was kidnapped by a stranger in a Sarasota, Florida church parking lot Sunday.
Police said the boy was looking for his bicycle less than a block from his home about 2 p.m. Sunday when Angela Charles grabbed his arm and said, “You don’t have a mother. You have a brother waiting for you at the store.’’
Charles, 45, told the child “I’m your new mother” as she forced him to walk about half a mile from the New Bethel Baptist Church to a nearby convenience store.
The boy reported the incident to a deputy, who spotted Charles outside the store.
Charles told officers “I’d take him again and take him to my home,” police said.
Charles was charged with kidnapping.
She is being held in jail on $50,000 bail.
