Blair Underwood will make his Broadway debut as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, to be staged by Emily Mann next season, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Stephen C. Byrd of Front Row Productions holds the rights to Streetcar and will produce the forthcoming Broadway revival, which he previously stated would be a multi-racial production.

Front Row Productions also presented the all-African-American revival of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway in 2008. Underwood was reportedly offered the role of Brick, which was ultimately played by Terrence Howard in that revival.

Mann (Me, Myself & I) will direct the New Orleans-set drama, which is aiming for a spring 2012 revival. Dates of production and a theatre have not been set.
