It’s the common phrase you’ll hear any inmate say in prisons across America. Yet in recent years, several convicted felons actually weren’t responsible for the crimes of which they were charged, and some of them were able to attain freedom. While the formerly imprisoned cherish their new life of freedom, their are still memories and experiences that cannot be forgotten.

In the United States, there have been 272 post-conviction exonerations. In 161 cases, the affected persons were African-American.

Historically, a disproportionate number of African-Americans have been wrongly convicted of crimes due to false confessions, incriminating statements, and other dubious evidence. The criminal justice system implemented DNA forensics in 1989, offering a source of irrefutable evidence in many cases.
