“Change begins with a whisper,” is the constant theme of The Help, which hits theaters tomorrow.

The film is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett. The story delves into the relationships African-American maids had with their white employers during the racially charged 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi.

Octavia Spencer stars as Minny Jackson, the outspoken, no-nonsense maid and mother of five. Spencer stars alongside Viola Davis, Cicely Tyson, Emma Stone, Sissy Spacek, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

In an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Spencer opens about her role in the film and what she hopes movie-goers will take away from their experience.
