Fans and neighbors of the late, great Jazz musician Miles Davis are upset at the vandalism of his childhood home in St. Louis. The house that many feel should be preserved as a legacy, maybe even a museum, now stands of stripped aluminum siding, broken windows and missing pipes.

Neighbor Mamie Page voiced her frustration to KSDK-TV saying, “Oh I saw it the other day, it just disgusted me. It really did. It was sad. Very sad to see that house like it is.”

Page says she knew Davis’ mother when she lived in the house and hopes that it can be one day restored of its pride.

The vacant home is still under the ownership of the Davis family. Many feel the family should spend the money to preserve the memory – to have something to show for his greatness.

Fans are also seeking justice for the blatant disrespect of their neighborhood inheritance.

Resident William Bleecher told KSDK-TV’s Ann Rubin:

“I don’t understand how somebody could pull the siding off of there piece by piece as long as that would take and nothing’s been done about it. Nobody’s been caught.”

Police and city officials are aware of the problem, but Mayor Alvin says what they can do is minimal.

The Davis family has so far declined comment.
