A 70-year-old Houston woman has been charged with being the mastermind behind a $10 million codeine cartel, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Authorities claim that, Licita Uy, originally from the Phillipines, raked in nine figures using her own rogue pharmacies to obtain close to 100,000 pints of the prescription strength cough medicine commonly known on the streets as “syrup” or “lean.”

The DEA alleges that Uy purchased three California pharmacies then obtained a DEA registration number to legally purchase the drug from legit dealers. She then had the drug transported to the Houston area where it was sold for $300-$600 a pint to street dealers.
