PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams has scheduled a news conference to discuss the future of the death penalty case against Mumia Abu-Jamal.

The district attorney’s office says Williams will be joined at the Wednesday morning news conference by the widow of slain officer Daniel Faulkner and police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to weigh in on the racially-charged case in October, forcing prosecutors to decide if they want to again pursue the death penalty or accept a life sentence.

A federal appeals court had ordered a new sentencing for Abu-Jamal after finding the instructions given to the jury were potentially misleading.

Abu-Jamal was convicted of first-degree murder in Faulkner’s death in 1982. The 30th anniversary of the killing is Friday.
