On Politics Nation on Tuesday, Rev. Al Sharpton highlighted an instance of voter fraud …only not the kind Republicans claim they’re trying to prevent with a string of voter ID laws. This fraud was perpetrated by a Republican official.

The case involves Paul Schurick, an aide to former Maryland governor Robert Ehrlich, who was convicted of conspiring to suppress black voter turnout in 2010. Prosecutors said Schurick approved deceptive robocalls designed to convince black voters that the election was over, and Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley had won re-election, before polls actually closed. Schurick was the campaign manager for O’Malley’s opponent, former Gov. Bob Ehrlich.
