Thirteen-year-old David Fields was reunited with his family early Friday morning after being locked inside Roosevelt Middle School for about nine hours Thursday.

Angela Johnson, David’s mother, said the family tried to get into the school to look for David but were turned away by janitors who said they weren’t allowed to look around.

The family called police and filed a missing persons report. Finally, the school’s police let them come back and look for David at the school after midnight.

His uncle and father found him yelling for help in a stairwell – which David had tried to use to avoid bullies.
