Janet Jackson was recently announced as the spokesperson of the dieting brand Nutrisystem. A new two-minute commercial for the Nutrisystem Success weight-loss program has debuted, featuring a “backstage” look at Jackson’s life. Jackson is just the latest black, female celebrity to endorse a popular dieting brand.

“I have a message for anyone that’s ever struggled with weight loss,” says Jackson in the commercial’s voiceover, “Make Nutrisystem Success your plan. I’m on it and I’ve already seen results. Get on it.”

In February, Jackson released a book, True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself dealing with the issue of self-esteem. In it, she wrote of her famous late brother Michael teasing her about her body. “He talked about my butt being too big. Some of us have a big butt, and some of us don’t. I’ve learned to accept it and love it.”

Over the years, Jackson’s weight has fluctuated. She said in a recent interview with TV’s The Insider that she plans to keep it off with Nutrisystem, making comparisons to other programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers — endorsed by Mariah Carey and Jennifer Hudson.

“It’s so easy,” she said. “You don’t have to do a point system, all these other things that a lot of other people do. Nutrisystem is so simple and the food is good.”

Despite issues with weight that Jackson has said go back to her days on Good Times, she said she doesn’t feel pressure to reach a certain goal. “I’m not putting a number on it. I don’t look at the scale. I’m going about it in a different way this time. It’s not just about losing weight, it’s about making it a way of life.”
