Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Jennifer Hudson sat down with Lester Holt of NBC’s Dateline for a revealing interview, set to air this Sunday.

During the interview Hudson addresses everything from the death of her mother, her extreme weight loss, her upcoming wedding and the joys of motherhood.

Hudson said that it was her fiancé David Otunga who helped prevent her from becoming a victim in the 2008 tragedy involving her mother and nephew.

“I remember it like yesterday. And I was literally pickin’ up my bags to walk out the door to go to my mother’s house,” she said. “And he called me, like, ‘Can you come out here instead of going, you know?’ And I was like, ‘Okay, sure.’ And that one decision, that one thing, I wouldn’t be sittin’ here.”

In exclusive footage from Dateline, provided to theGrio, Hudson appears slim and fashionably chic. She reveals the design of her wedding dress, and says that her son ‘little David’ is a tribute to her mother.

“Oh my God, he’s just— I— in a way, I feel just, you know, having a child is when you realize how much your mother loves you, you know what I mean? Like, he’s just like me when I was a baby,” Hudson said.

Dateline’s interview with Jennifer Hudson will air Sunday at 7pm/6c.
