Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

From Hindustan Times: R&B star Rihanna, who will be seen playing a female sailor in her debut film Battleship, says her character took inspiration from a real-life Navy officer.

The Umbrella hitmaker said she completely relied on technical adviser Jacqueline Carrizosa to help her with the role, Daily Express
reported. “My character, her name is Raikes. She’s a weapons officer, she’s not afraid of anything. She loves weapons, she knows them – not only her weapons, but every other weapon on the ship.”

“We had this navy officer on set. Her name is Jackie, she’s also in the Navy. I was playing what she really does in real life. She was all tatted (tattooed) up and I just looked
at her and I was like, ‘You are Raikes,” she said.
