From New York Times: Niles Ford, a performer and choreographer who had been active in the downtown New York dance scene since the late 1970s, died on Saturday at his home in Brooklyn. He was 52.

The cause was a heart attack, said his wife, Jenny Taylor.

With a long-boned body seemingly as pliant as warm taffy, Mr. Ford was a dancer of quiet intelligence, understated sweetness and intense focus. Jeff Duncan, a founder of Dance Theater Workshop, was an important early mentor. So was Bill T. Jones, at a time when a new generation of young black choreographers was emerging and shaping a distinctive vision.
