Essence reports that although Sparkle is slated to hit theaters this summer, its stars Jordan Sparks and Whitney Houston are already raving about their experience filming together. Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 film about a Supremes-like group of sisters who deal with the tribulations of fame. In the new film, Houston will play the mother of the lead character, Sparkle (played by Sparks.)
The remake of the classic 1976 film “Sparkle” is set to hit theaters on August 10, starring Whitney Houston making her big-screen return, and she couldn’t be more excited.
“Part of the fun of making this movie is definitely the costumes and the hairstyles,” Houston tells People. “The movie is set in 1963, and we had a great wardrobe, hair and makeup person and I loved wearing the outfits.”
Houston’s co-star Jordin Sparks gushes over sharing the experience with one her icons. “I sang her songs into a hairbrush when I was little,” says Sparks. “Now she’s acting as my mom and scolding me. It was a dream come true.”
