'Stop Kony' movement to crack down on child soldiers lights up Twitter

Invisible Children, a non-profit organization, has started a movement to take down the Ugandan guerrilla group leader Joseph Kony. Today, #stopkony is one of the top trending topics in the world, after the Invisible Children’s new documentary film, KONY 2012, premiered on YouTube and Facebook yesterday. In just one day, the video has gained more than four million views.
The Ugandan guerrilla group leader, Kony, is the head of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a group that is leading a violent government campaign using kidnapped child soldiers to fight for them.

The LRA group has reportedly abducted more than 66,000 children to fight for them, and has displaced more than 2 million people since their wars began in 1986.
According to the Invisible Children Organization, KONY 2012 seeks to “make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.”
The 30-minute documentary follows Invisible Children co-founder and filmmaker Jason Russell and former child soldier named Jacob. The film is powerful and moving, and hopefully will compel viewers worldwide to get involved to put a stop to conflicts in Uganda.
Last night Twitter erupted with endorsements from celebrities like Russell Simmons, MC Hammer, Molly Sims, Zachary Levi, Zooey Deschanel, and Diddy tweeting #stopkony to their millions of followers.
