But attorney Anthony Ricco suggested Tuesday that there are too many inconsistencies to convict rapper G. Dep of the 1993 murder.

The 37-year-old’s trial opened Tuesday. Manhattan Assistant District Attorney David Drucker said key evidence came from “the most reliable” source: the rapper himself.
G. Dep told police in 2010 he’d shot a stranger while trying to mug him 17 to 19 years before. Police matched his account to the 1993 death of John Henkel.
Prosecutors note the rapper gave details that squared. Ricco notes that other details don’t.
Born Trevell Coleman, G. Dep got attention with “Special Delivery” and “Let’s Get It” in the early 2000s.
