New statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons finds the chin is in. More people are getting chin implants than ever before, and doctors say video chat technology may be behind the boost.

Lizette Stephens is a project manager for a software company and spends most of her day talking to executives and clients via video chat.

LIZETTE EXPLAINS WHY SHE WANTED A CHIN IMPLANT

“I noticed that I was not happy with the profile of my face and the way it projected in video and pictures,” she says. Her solution was a chin implant and more than 20,000 Americans had the procedure done just last year.

“Chin augmentation has increased approximately 70% in the last year, that’s an astonishing number,” says Dr. Darrick Antell, A spokesperson for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He says a strong chin not only improves a patient’s self-esteem, it may also boost their bottom line.

“90% of CEOs had chins that were larger than normal or normal, that’s much higher than the general population,” he explains. Chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia.

Most patients return to work after three days and see the full results after three months. Both men and women are having it done.

Lizette had the procedure six months ago and says there is one thing she would change. “I would have gotten it done sooner,” she laughs. “That’s the one thing I would have done differently.”

She’s not letting herself get too down about that. Now she says she can confidently do her work with her chin held high.
