Platinum-selling soul singer Maxwell will soon kick off his first shows since 2010, touring LA, Atlanta, and Newark over the summer.

The Grammy award-winning superstar, praised by critics for his sultry performances, has announced this will also mark the first time ever that he performs his four best-selling albums (Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, Embrya, Now, and BLACKsummer’snight) in their entirety.

Maxwell and his eleven piece band will be debuting tracks from all four albums that have never been performed live.

An artist widely recognized for having re-vamped the sub-genre of “neo-soul,” Maxwell received across-the-board rave reviews following his last tour in 2010, Maxwell & Jill Scott: The Tour.

WATCH AN ORIGINAL GRIO INTERVIEW WITH MAXWELL HERE:

The New York Times wrote of the concert, “BLACKsummers’night is an album built around the sound of a band, with songs seemingly built for the pliability of performance. Now here was the result, every bit as absorbing as inherently promised.”

USA Today, the New York Times, and the Washington Post considered Maxwell’s last studio album the best of 2009. It won Grammys for “best R&B album” and “best male R&B vocal performance” for the #1 Billboard hit “Pretty Wings” in 2010.

Like so many events by celebrities and musicians who’ve come out in support of President Obama’s re-election campaign, this tour will feature Obama-Biden 2012 merchandise on-sale at select locations. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sales of these items will benefit “Obama for America,” an initiative that recruits volunteers to help register voters in battleground states.
