April 15th was the “World Day of Art” in Sweden and Minister of Culture Lene Adelsohn Liljeroth participated in what many called a “racial spectacle.” At an art exhibition, where they wanted to bring focus to female circumcision, the minister participated in the cutting of a cake shaped like an African woman. The head of the cake was attached to a person who hid underneath the table and screamed pretending to be in pain every time the cake was cut into. Adelsohn decided to begin to cut the cake symbolically at the clitoris area. The National Afro-Swedish Association is outraged and is asking for the immediate dismissal or Liljeroth. The Local reports:

Swedish minister of culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth’s participation in a “racist spectacle” in which she carved up a cake depicting a naked black woman has sparked outrage and prompted calls for the minister’s dismissal.

“This was a racist spectacle.”

Sabuni’s comments come following Adelsohn Liljeroth’s participation in an art installation that took place at Stockholm’s Moderna Museet in connection with World Art Day on April 15th.

As part of the installation, which was reportedly meant to highlight the issue of female circumcision, the culture minister began cutting a large cake shaped like a black woman, symbolically starting at the clitoris.
