NBC Miami- Six-year-old David Narcisse is proud to be a big brother.

His mother gave birth to a healthy baby girl in May, but passed away a week later from complications. Then not too long after, his father, Sylvio Narcisse, lost one of his jobs.

“It was hard for me because I didn’t know how I was going to tell him, but as I said before, there were certain things I didn’t expect from the school,” the father said.

School counselors at David Lawrence Junior Center worked with David Narcisse and his father to help break the news to the kindergartener. He hasn’t missed a day of school since the tragedy.

“Once the father came and spoke to me about what had happened, I sent an email to the faculty and staff at the school telling them the situation at the school and we had this overwhelming response,” said kindergarten teacher Maureen Thomson.
