A high school basketball star allegedly texted friends to join her on a “blunt cruise” before driving head on into a school bus. According to the Boston Herald, there were four teens involved in the crash including driver Monica Knight. The crash, that took place on the day of their junior prom, left one girl in a coma and the other on a long road of recovery from a brain injury. Police found marijuana residue and prescription pills in Knight’s BMW. None of the teens were wearing seat belts:

The Silver Lake High School basketball star who loaded three teens into her sporty coupe moments before it crashed head-on with a school bus the day of their junior prom fired off text messages about going on a “blunt cruise” the morning of the horrific accident, which left one girl in a coma and another on a long road of recovery from a brain injury, police said.

Monica Knight, 17, who was arraigned yesterday in the March 30 crash, had marijuana residue and eight prescription pills strewn about her red BMW on March 30 when she veered across the yellow line on Lake Street in Kingston and smashed head-on with the bus, according to police. One witness told cops it looked like the car was on a “suicide mission.”

Knight pleaded not guilty yesterday in Plymouth District Court to charges including reckless operation and possession of a Class B drug, and was released on orders that she wear a GPS unit, forfeit her license, submit to random drug tests and observe a 10 p.m. curfew.
