Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

In his first performance since revealing his first love was a man, singer Frank Ocean appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday. The 24-year-old songwriter performed the track “Bad Religion,” a deeply personal song about unrequited love off of his upcoming album Channel Orange. It was also learned the album would be released a week early exclusively on Apple’s iTunes.

The song “Bad Religion” was first mentioned on various music blogs last week as an indication that Ocean would soon be disclosing new details about his sexuality. Ocean nearly sobbed through the track with lyrics such as “I could never make him love me” in the song’s chorus. Fallon’s house band The Roots accompanied Ocean on the much-anticipated performance.
