Movie mogul Tyler Perry announced on his website yesterday that he’s taken an indefinite break from his popular Madea stage shows to focus on his film and TV projects. This is the not the first time Perry has taken an extended hiatus from live theater. He took a similar breather back in 2005. IndieWire reports:

“I don’t know if you remember this or not, but around 2005 I took off from touring my Madea plays for about 5 years. During that time, I was working mostly on movies and TV shows. Well, as much as I love to be out on stage and doing a live Madea show, the time has come again for me to take a long break from the stage. I have some major projects that I’m working on that will require a lot of my time and effort. Just know that I did not want to stop this tour until I had hit as many cities as possible. So I’m going to finish out this Fall leg of the tour and then take a long break.”

Words from Tyler Perry in a message to his fans via his website, today.

So, he’s taking a long break from the stage, much to the chagrin of his fans I’m sure.

You’ll recall that I’ve long wondered how in the world he balances all the varied projects he seems to work on simultaneously, in TV, film and stage. I suppose he wants to do as much as he can, while he can; although it all seems to be catching up with him, as he’s now taking an extended break (who knows, maybe it’ll be a permanent one) from one of his cash-cows.
