Eva Marcille became a pop culture phenomenon after winning the third cycle of America’s Next Top Model in 2005. Since then, she has appeared as an actress on TV shows like Kevin Hill, Smallville, House of Payne and The Young and the Restless.

She currently produces and stars in Girlfriend Confidential: LA, alongside her best friends, Denyce Lawton, Nikki Chu, and Kelly Marie Dunn. The reality show follows Eva and her group of girlfriends as they attempt to navigate their way through Hollywood.

During an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Eva talked about how she developed and pitched her new show to Oxygen, and also weighed in on some of today’s hot topics.

Recently a past winner of America’s Next Top Model, CariDee English, spoke out about the show and said that Tyra Banks abandons contestants after they win the show. “She [Tyra] provided a wonderful platform for girls to have a chance at their dream, but after there is no ‘Tyra Mail,” English revealed.

However Eva defended Banks.

“This woman [Tyra Banks] gave you a platform to display whatever it is you wanted to display at the best of your ability and you leave that and now knock her for not carrying you on her back? Tyra can only do what she can do. She has her own career, her own life, and she gave all of us a leg up,” Eva said. “No one owes me a campaign, a job or contract. I’m supposed to go out and get that. People go on Top Model and they expect “I’m gonna leave here and I’m now Naomi Campbell.” I’m sorry that’s definitely not how it works. Check your e-mail because it’s not right.”

Girlfriend Confidential LA airs on Oxygen Mondays at 11/10C.
