Rap icon Dr. Dre was ranked number one on a recently-released Forbes list of the world’s 25 highest paid musicians, after banking an estimated $110 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

The majority of Dr. Dre’s earning power is reported to have come more from the sales of his line of headphones, Beats by Dre, rather than his music.

His long delayed follow-up to his blockbuster album 2001, titled Detox, has yet to be released.

Other musicians that trailed Dre in money made include Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters with $88 million, Sir Elton John with $80 million and popular Irish rock band U2 with $78 million.

Pop star Rihanna, recently off her ‘777’ tour, also made the list, landing at No. 12 with $58 million earned.

Sean “Diddy” Combos earned $45 million to tie for the 15th spot with pop star Katy Perry.

On the list are also Beyoncé Knowles with $40 million, her husband Jay-Z with $38 million, and rapper Kanye West shares the No. 22 spot with British crooner Adele at $35 million earned.
