Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

As we continue to celebrate the lives and contributions of African-Americans during Black History Month, The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks is perhaps one of the most important titles.

Through her tragic death, Lacks has single-handedly been responsible for giving life to countless people via her cells, which were found to never die and have been used in research and training throughout the world.

Also on the list this week is a story of the Great Migration of black Americans, told brilliantly by Isabel Wilkerson in The Warmth of Other Suns.

And for Valentine’s Day, we decided to offer a story of true love that has a unique twist, in The Hand I Fan With by Tina McElroy.
