Actress Kerry Washington has seen her star rise in recent months both for her achievements as an actress and for her ever-increasing sense of personal style. On the heels of her winning an armful of NAACP Image Awards for all her great works on the small and silver screens, she has continued wowing onlookers while walking red carpets. Displaying a very chic and modern sensibility, while other starlets are conforming to safe, cookie-cutter molds, Washington has been wearing daring cuts, bold patterns and intriguing shoes.
This is a big departure from her first days in Hollywood when the c0-star of Django Unchained played supporting roles in blockbusters and a muted role at premieres.
“Kerry Washington is redefining today’s modern woman with style choices that are feminine and sophisticated yet don’t overplay her shape or skin tone,” celebrity stylist Monica Barnett told theGrio about her style evolution. “She plays nicely with patterns and textures, but still manages to present with an understated elegance and touch of flair. I’m always waiting to see what she comes out with.”
Kerry most recently wore a pretty, yet bold Miu Miu gown to the Oscars, the latest in a string of eye-catching pieces that make you envy her ability to be irreverently glamorous. If her career and fashion sense both continue to grow simultaneously and exponentially as they have through 2012, we can expect Washington to become both a major style icon and movie star in the years to come.
