SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Everett Golson’s high school coach says he believes the quarterback will learn from being suspended by Notre Dame for the fall semester.

Myrtle Beach (S.C.) coach Mickey Wilson Jr. said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that he has talked with Golson. He says Golson plans to return to Notre Dame after being suspended for what the quarterback has called poor academic judgment.

Wilson says Golson will continue to grow on and off the field. The quarterback acknowledged Sunday in a letter released by the university that he had been suspended.

As a first-time starter in 2012, Golson helped the Fighting Irish go 12-0 during the regular season and reach the BCS title game, where they lost 42-14 to Alabama.
