An off-duty officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a man on a Maryland highway after the two were involved in an altercation on the road.

According to Maryland State Police, the officer, Joseph Walker, got into a dispute with 36-year-old Joseph Harvey Jr. while both were driving on I-97 in Anne Arundel County, Md., Saturday night.

Walker, 40, allegedly shot Harvey after they pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. Police said they were likely driving near each other for about a mile before they got out of their cars.

Authorities said Harvey and his passenger started walking toward Walker’s car when Walker fired in Harvey’s direction and hit him. Walker’s wife and three children were in the car with him at the time.
