STARKE, Florida (AP) — A U.S. man convicted of killing eight people is scheduled to be executed Monday evening by lethal injection in Florida.
Lawyers for 65-year-old John Errol Ferguson contend their client is mentally ill and has suffered from schizophrenia since he was a teen. They have filed numerous appeals in several courts.
Ferguson was convicted of killing the eight people in two separate incidents.
His lawyers say several psychiatrists have ruled that he is mentally ill. Most of those evaluations came when Ferguson was in a state mental hospital in the 1970s.
