Beyoncé took over Brooklyn this past weekend after she performed for three consecutive nights at the borough’s Atlantic Barclays Center — but she wasn’t alone.

The pop star invited her husband, and Brooklyn native, Jay Z, to join her on the stage Monday night, surprising fans and setting off a flurry of excitement.

The rapper performed the song “Tom Ford” from his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail. The song also features BeyoncĂ©, who sang the background vocals that are featured on the track.

Monday night was BeyoncĂ©’s last summer performance in Brooklyn for her Mrs. Carter World Tour. Due to the high demand in tickets, another date was added and she will return to the arena on Dec. 19.

Jay Z played a large part in the opening of the Barclays Center and performed for eight consecutive nights during the arena’s grand opening in October.

This is not the first time the rapper has appeared on stage alongside his wife during her tour. He surprised Beyoncé in July when he ran to the stage and gave her a quick hug and planted a kiss during her performance in Philadelphia.
