The jury is now deliberating in the case of Jackson vs. AEG Live. The estate of pop superstar Michael Jackson is suing the concert promoter of the This Is It tour for negligence in the hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray and the propofol overdose that led to Jackson’s death.

The powerful sedative is intended for use in surgeries and is to be administered in a hospital under strict supervision. Murray routinely dosed Jackson in the pop star’s home with the drug nightly leading to deadly consequences.

But that’s not what this trial was all about. Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, sentenced to 4 years and was stripped of his medical license. He is expected to be released at the end of October after serving just two years because of good behavior and prison overcrowding. This current trial alleges “wrongful death” on behalf of the concert promoters.

The Jackson family lawyers say Murray was hired without considering whether he was fit for the job.

The case is now in the hands of the jury that must decide whether Jackson himself had some responsibility in the routine dosing of the powerful anesthetic not intended for use as a sleep aid.
