HOUSTON (AP) — Singer Patti LaBelle has testified that a man approached her at a Houston airport, swearing and calling her names, before he fought with her bodyguard.

The Grammy-winning entertainer told a Houston court Thursday that Richard King scared her in 2011 when he staggered toward her limousine at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

LaBelle’s bodyguard, Efrem Holmes, is charged with misdemeanor assault in the clash caught on security video that landed King in a hospital with a head wound.

Records show King’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving. King testified Thursday that he could not remember details of the incident.

King has also filed a civil lawsuit against the singer and Holmes. LaBelle has countersued.
